Ich muss zunächst mal sagen, dass ich sowieso ein riesiger Bear Grylls Fan bin. Darum wollte ich mir mal eines seiner Produkte beschaffen. Da dachte ich mir, dass dieses Messer hier - das "mittlere" (von der grösse her) - doch gerade recht ist. Relativ billig, sieht schön aus, kommt von Bear...
Gesagt getan. Ich habe das ganze bei einem Anbieter aus den USA gekauft, weil es dort noch einen Tick billiger war. Davon würde ich euch abraten. Es hat 6 Wochen gedauert, bis es in Deutschland war und dann musste ich es noch vom Zoll abholen.
Das hat dann auch Geld gekostet, was mir der Anbieter netterweise erstattet hat.
Als ich das Messer dann in die Hand genommen habe, war ich sofort begeistert!
Das Messer liegt so gut in der Hand, dass man nicht mehr loslassen will. Ausserdem sieht due grau-orange-kombi sehr schön aus. Auf der Klinge kann man das grosse BG für Bear Grylls sehen und auf der Klinge ist die Aufschrift des Herstellers GERBER und eine Signatur von Bear eingraviert. Die Klinge selbst ist 9,7cm lang und zur Hälfte "sorrated".
Was mich überrascht hat, war, dass das Messer gleich ziemlich scharf geliefert wird, was ja bei anderen Herstellern nicht immer der Fall ist. Sicher kann man das Messer noch schärfer machen, aber ich finde dafür, dass es direkt aus der Packung kam, ZIEMLICH scharf.
An der Klinge sind an beiden Seiten "Thumbstuds" angebracht -> Links- und Rechtshänder können es problemlos mit einer Hand öffnen. Das ganze Schnapp wenn man es öffnet oben ein, dank des "Lock back mechanism"'s. Dieser hält die Klinge an Ort und Stelle und da wackelt nichts. Man braucht auch keine Angst mehr zu haben, dass die Klngem während man sie benutzt, auf die Finger schnappt. Das sitzt dann fast so fest wie eine feststehende Klinge.
Dabei ist noch eine Hülle, die ist aus militär-Nylon gefertigt und extrem leicht (genau wie das Messer).
Darauf ist auch nochmal GERBER, BG und die Bear Signatur eingestickt, alles schön an den orange-Look gehalten, sodass es gut zum Messer passt. Hinten hat die Tasche Laschen, sodass man sie entweder vertikal oder horizontal an einem Gürtel befestigen kann. Das horizontale ist gar nicht so schlecht wie einige sagen, da das Messer so passgenau und fest in der Tasche sitzt, dass es selbst wenn die Tasche aufgeht, nicht herausfallen würde. Nicht mal kopfüber :).
Die Tasche hat ausserdem noch einen Slot für den "Priorities of Survival"-Pocket-Guide von Bear.
Der ist nicht aus beschichtetem Papier, wie man vielleicht zuerst meint, sonder aus wasserfestem und reisfestem Plastik gemacht. Zusammengefaltet ist er sehr klein, aufgefaltet aber enthält er ALLE nötigen Informationen, die man braucht um zu überleben. Wie man Feuer macht, einen Unterschlupf baut, verschiedene Knoten bindet, die Himmelsrchtung bestimmen kann, Wasser gewinnt,.... usw. Eben einfach alles, das einem wirklich hilft, wenn man es mal braucht.
Ich trage das Messer fast immer bei mir, ich finde es hat den "Geist" von Bear in sich :)

Eine absolute Kaufempfehlund also nicht nur für Bear Grylls Fans, denn für die ist es ein MUSS! :)
