As you can see in the picture I spread a thick border of this stuff around my planter box and an hour later I came out to find my cat shitting directly on top of the mixture. Now he smells like cinnamon so I guess it is a cat attractant instead of a cat deterrent.
We love it. It’s the second tool in our war with the local cat lady. She feeds them, they mass, they feed, they fight, they...reproduce. They also poo in our outdoor spaces, sit on our patio furniture leaving fleas and hair clots. They eat our other wildlife and disrupt the ecology of the area. This shaker has changed our lives. We’re no longer reduced to uncivilized cat chasing clapping screaming brutes when we walk outside. The cats sit at the borders of our treated areas glaring, swishing and plotting revenge. Bonus, it smells like cinnamon. We’re going to keep ordering until there are no more flattened plants in our garden, yellowing shrubs due to marking, cat pee on our vehicles, and dead birds in our yard. I’m still going to squirt them with the water pistol, but just because I’m spiteful.
I followed the directions and put the product out where he needed to be. I watched and a neighbor's cat went right through it like it was not even they are, so I doubled up the dose. The cat walked around the edges of it without you knowing it went right back to where he was that so I widened the area completely and all around the area that I want protected. I use old 2 pounds a little while later also look hop skip and jump right over to where he wanted to be. Either the product did not work, or is a very smart Blank Blank Blank cat.. Do you have something that would work better than that? If so, you can send it to me at no expense. I would love to be able to give you a great rating!
Update: After 3 days of repelling squirrels really well, they're baaaack! It didn't rain, so that's not the problem. No cats so far, but I'm taking two stars off. Initial review: I just planted my tulip bulbs, and sprinkled Nature's Mace over them in hopes of deterring the squirrels and a neighbor's cat. I'm watching squirrels land on places I didn't sprinkle (where the bulbs aren't) and twirl around in confused circles as they are hemmed in by the Maced places. Then they leap out of the garden squawking. Unlike other squirrel repellents I've used, which work ok-ish and smell truly horrible, this one smells intense but pleasant--exactly like lemon pledge, but like you sprayed the entire can in a closet. It has citronella in it, so that's probably the smell. I will report back if it doesn't hold up after a few days. Haven't seen the cat either. At the moment, I'm so pleased, I could twirl around in circles!
This product did not work whatsoever. The cats would come every night even with the cat mace everywhere. I put the cat mace all around my yard. The cat wold still come and sit in my lawn chairs. This was a waste of my money. And I want a refund.
I had decorative gravel put in my garden area not tiny, the 1" size. Looked very nice until my neighbors large cat decided it was his new litter box and he started leaving good size gifts there. To add to the fun, his droppings attracted another animal to also start leaving gifts and those were even more disgusting for whatever reason. I tried a few things to no avail. Gave this Cat Mace a try, sprinkled around the edges and over the area where they went - and yippee! No more presents! It doesn't smell bad to me at all and sticks around for a while. I recommended to my cousin who was also having issues with feral cats on his property, hope it works as well for him ... keep making it, I'll get more when I run out so I can refresh regularly!
My neighbor’s cats have been using my backyard as their own personal kitty litter. I bought this hoping it would deter them from coming around. I thought it was working at first but about 3 days later I noticed poop in the area I sprinkled in. I cleaned up the mess and applied a bit more. The very next day cat poop again right in the very area I spread the cat mace. This product does not work!
My dad applied the product about a week ago from the day I'm typing this review. When you follow the directions, you can get results, but keep in mind that the product trains the cats to stay out of your garden. It seems to keep a lot of cats away from the garden area. I watched one in particular from the window totally bypass the garden at first. I thought that was REALLY cool to see, as he was clearly looking for a place to do his business. He eventually disappeared from my view. Later, I spotted him at the inside edge of the garden laying down. That was an area recently dug up, so I realized the product needed to be reapplied there. Overall, no cat poo to deal with, so I'm mostly happy with the results. I'll make sure the product is reapplied consistently so that the neighborhood cats learn that this is not a good area to hang out in.
5/3/2019 Update: We had to buy more because the cats took advantage of the scent of the repellent being gone (we were still digging around in the garden). In the mean time, I had to use my own cinnamon and red pepper, but that isn't waterproof, lol. Since I've reapplied the application, I've seen no cat diggings of any sort in the main garden. If they do go into the back yard they use it somewhere else.
It took 10 days to stop the neighbor cats from using our garden as a catbox. The cats dug right through the MACE layer to take care of business for the first five days. Then one cat (of 3) dropped out on the sixth day. The next cat persisted for another two days before moving elsewhere. The last cat deposit happened on the tenth morning. Since then, no evidence of cat waste. It's been almost a month since the only application.
The information available on the product did not address timing and I was quite disappointed before the good results started coming in. I am now satisfied.
