Great picture quality, Bright, and good lens adjustments

Ill start with the downside: Its a little bigger than I would like as I use this outdoors often and move it to different locations. Its really not designed to be a portable projector, but I got it anyway because I like the brightness, quality, price point.

The good:
Very bright. I use it to project movies on the side of a barn and it is very good quality.
Lens shift if very good and zoom is 1.6 which helps with flexible placement
Like the different brightness modes to boost the brightness or back it off if it is very dark to save some hours on the bulb
Very happy with the projector
Have not tried 3d yet. Not really a big fan of 3d video.

Unit is big but looks good. My living room looks like a professional movie theater. The unit was easy to mount to the ceiling. Setup was easy also. I was watching a movie within 10 mins of first powering up. The vertical lens shift came in very handy. I didn't use any horizontal lens shift or keystone correction. But every installation is different. I line up the projector to the screen as best as I can during installation so startup would be easy.

Brightness was ok. I have yet to try it during the day. I have two sky lights that this projector has to overcome. That's one of the reasons I went for the 3700 model which had a 3000 lumens brightness instead of the lower brightness models.

Unit is quiet. I didn't hear any loud fan noises at all.

I'll update this review after a few months.... but so far, I'm loving this projector.

The Good:
It is a light cannon
Good color saturation
Excellent lens shift range

The Not So Good:
The 3D has notable ghosting and motion artifacts, regardless of what glasses I used (tried Epson's as well as Sony and a Chinese off-brand) and regardless of various projector settings.

Strangely, the professional magazine reviews claim excellent 3D performance and virtually no ghosting, but the vast majority of online user reviews complain of unresolvable and unacceptable 3D crosstalk.

The user reviews are correct.

The crosstalk also has the effect of making details look blurry. If you want 3D, DLP is the way to go. DLP pixels can move exponentially faster than LCD pixels, hence zero crosstalk inherent in the imaging chip.

Also, the contrast is a little bit lacking. Yes, the dynamic iris can give you better blacks in dark scenes. But dark areas in bright scenes look slightly washed out, as the iris cannot help you there and performance is limited by the native contrast of the LCD and optics.

In Dynamic Cinema mode after calibration, I was able to get a nice pop with acceptable if not great contrast.

Also, if you turn the Epson super white function off (as it is by default) almost ALL white levels are clipped on a 255-step contrast test panel, regardless of where you set the contrast! Thus, you absolutely need to have the Epson white feature on. (This was true for both Cinema modes, other modes not tested).

In summary, if you want 3D, go with DLP. Nothing else can do it right.
If you want great brightness and performance for standard fare at this price, the projector looks quite good post-calibration, despite leaving you slightly wanting for more contrast

This replaced a BenQ W1200 that I'd had for a long time. Very impressed with this Epson. Very bright... even to the point that it's possible to watch during the daytime with the blinds pulled. Contrast is great.

Most of the features are worthless, but that's par for the course on projectors. Manufacturers pack in tons of crap just to check boxes, but no one uses them.

The feature I really love is how you adjust the screen edges. In addition to the traditional trapezoid, it also has a mode where you can move each corner individually. OMG! Such a huge time saver.

The sideways shifting of the image was also helpful because I mounted this to a drop-arm that was already on the ceiling and it was off by an inch or two. Saved me having to move the whole thing. The zoom is also solid.

DUST ON THE LENS

I bought this product from Best Buy for the convenience of their Geek Squad protection

Generally I like it very much. It gives you almost exquisite control over the image. I was afraid of fan noise but it's almost negligible. It does put out a lot of heat, and I'm a little worried about what this will do to the temperature of the room where I set it up, in the summer. The quality of the sound from the speakers is okay. Nice picture, it's viewable during the day with ambient light in the room although it looks kind of washed out. At night it's fine.

My two major problems:

When I brought it home, unboxed it, took off the lens cap, and fired it up, THERE WAS DUST ON THE LENS, plainly visible when the projector is running. Dust. IT CAME FROM THE FACTORY WITH DUST ON THE LENS. Terrible quality control. RIDICULOUS. I don't want to touch the lens and the instructions scare me -- "wipe it gently with camera lens cleaning paper." I am sure this runs a risk of scratching it. And the instructions say not to spray the lens with canned air spray because the propellant could create a film over the lens surface. So NOW what do I do?

Second item -- I am a little surprised at the limited zoom capability. I have the projector on one end of a large bedroom and painted the opposite wall with digital screen paint. With the projector zoomed all the way out for maximum image size, it's still kind of small. I was expecting a much large expansion zoom capability.
