I've tried several clarinets in the last few months at brick and mortar locations and through the internet. After trying out everything from a few Buffet Toscas, Festivals, R13, Selmer Signatures, Privilege, and even 3 other Buffet Tradition, there was a Buffet Tradition Version 1 at a relatively unbelievably low price on Amazon (of all places) so I made sure there was a return policy and purchased it while asking myself, "Why not see what one more Buffet Tradition might bring?". Not expecting much and to my surprise, THIS Tradition V1 was "the one" of the many I've tried that did what I was looking for and felt perfect in my hands. Clear, solid tone, totally in tune up and down the scale, very mouthpiece friendly, with just the right amount of resistance and free blowing quality (if that makes any sense) and ease of playing that I had not experienced in other clarinets.
Buffet hit a home run with the Tradition and even though on paper it did not look like something that would blow me away, it hit the spot for me. Everyone has different fingers, ears and sensitivity when it comes to "the right instrument" and this one was perfect for me. I feel fortunate to have it and recommend anyone wanting a top notch clarinet to at least give the Buffet Tradition a shot.
